Pandemic – An Opportunity For Innovative Thinking

The COVID-19 crisis, among all the negative aspects, also brings an opportunity for innovation and digital transformation to the aviation industry, and especially in airport ground handling. It is unlikely that ground handling companies will continue with the same old internal processes and concepts, including training, once international traffic returns back to “normal”. Now it’s a great time to review processes and to transform e.g. digital training into better response business needs.

It is expected that the successful ground handling companies will be those that are able to control costs and execute company training efficiently according to international training requirements, while preparing to ramp up their operations. We at Airport College International believe that eLearning is an integral part of that process, this is also confirmed by many of our clients around the world.

Ground handling companies now have the time and opportunity to prepare themselves for digital training, if they are not yet fully prepared.

Ensure that employees’ competences, knowledge and attitudes are OK

You can use flexible training solutions and perhaps provide part of the training as online, even before your staff comes back to the airport and the logistics business.

This will allow people to orientate themselves back into the working mode and also shorten the entire re-training process. Professionally built online eLearning training courses are the part of the digital solutions portfolio you need for a smooth restart.

Employee Onboarding is Important

Research from the Society for Human Resources Management shows that turnover during the first 18 months on the job can be as high as 50 percent. An effective onboarding process aims to help your returning and new employees to feel more valued, understand their roles and responsibilities, increase their productivity and performance, resulting in increased engagement.

Create an Unforgettable Welcome With Quality eLearning

We at AirportCollege.com have a number of ready to use eLearning products available to covering security, safety, operational and service related training needs with standardised content.

Major elements of the onboarding are to:

  • Give an introduction to a company’s vision, mission, culture and values
  • Provide training to international aviation regulations

The concept also works for laid off employees returning back to work.

Attract, Pre-train and Select New Candidates Before Employment

You can use online eLearning as part of your selection process by providing some of the training to the candidates as part of the process. This enables you to check potential employees abilities to work in the aviation business.

eLearning Can Also Take Place in The Classroom

eLearning can also take place in the classroom which can help instructors to familiarise students with both the topics, and at the same time with eLearning. This enables the instructor to get the whole class to the same starting level of knowledge, before he or she will starts his/her teaching.

Online tests and exams can be embedded into the classroom training, too. The extra workload of an instructor to check all the answers, who passed and who didn’t, can be fully automated with the learning platform.

Cost-efficiency – Gain up to 80% of Savings

Studies indicate that eLearning has the potential to reduce training related costs significantly, by up to 80%. Contact us for details.

Do You Want To Hear More

If you want to improve your company’s training related productivity today you can contact us today, we know how this can be done.

How to avoid information leaks

Most companies have invested massive amounts of money in ICT, security systems and movement control. Premises and employees are protected with state-of-the-art locking systems and CCTVs. Often too little attention is paid to ensure that employees understand how to treat company information and what to communicate with people outside their organisation.

Here’s some basic rules to follow:

  • Work matters should be discussed only at work, not even at home with family members.
  • Public places, public transport or restaurants are not good places for work discussions or phone conversations about work.
  • Think about what and how you communicate, on work premises too, and remember the people within hearing range who could be customers or business partners.
  • Office and meeting room sound insulation is not always enough to ensure that your message would remain entirely within the walls.
  • It is important to remember that when you are on social media, in the name of your company, you are representing your employer.

Think before you act!

Human behaviour plays a central role in the information security. Personnel awareness and security culture needs to be improved continuously. We have worked closely with our clients and learned that information security training is a must when companies are building a strong security culture. Information security, or often referred to as cyber security, is strongly linked to all other areas of security, including physical security.

Information Security Online eLearning Course

According to studies employees often do not see themselves as part of the company’s information security efforts and therefore take actions that ignore company’s security interest.

Our Information Security online eLearning training course is designed for personnel to gain relevant knowledge and to develop practical skills on how to avoid information security mistakes.

The Transport of Covid-19 Vaccines In The Centre Of The Debate

“Managing the COVID-19 vaccine transport is a major challenge for logistics to ensure proper handling of 15 billion doses needed to be shipped worldwide.”

The transport requirements for vaccine shipments will test the agility and resilience of the entire logistic chain, as well as a huge range of new risks that may arise. These include optimal air transportation time, a proper ground handling and transportation infrastructure, local temperatures and other conditions, staff guidance, and staff training.

Huge Challenge To The Logistics, In Africa Too

This week we participated a webinar arranged by Ground Handling International (GHI) focusing on the African aviation market with hundreds of participants and presentations from various stakeholders. Covid-19 and its effects on the aviation industry were, of course, significantly highlighted and we heard the views of various parties on how the transport of vaccines will be handled in the coming years in Africa.

“Africa will require up 1.5 billion doses of Cocid-19 Vaccines to vaccinate 60% of its population of 1.3 billion citizens over the next 2-3 years”

“An efficient global distribution of the vaccines requires cooperation on global standards and a global harmonisation of processes amongst all stakeholders.”

The webinar emphasised the importance of the following themes, on which we can all agree.

  • People – Responsible persons and staff training, effective communication
  • Infrastructure – Storage facilities and equipment, transportation equipment
  • Standards – Service level agreements and procedures, real time and accurate data with records

Airport College Zero Emission Training (ZET)

The aviation industry recognises the impact of climate change and is taking the responsibility to reduce this impact very seriously. According to IATA, airlines aim to reduce aviation’s CO2 emissions to half of what they were in 2005, by 2050. Achieving this goal requires continued investment in new technologies and strong support mechanisms for the deployment of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

Cut Emissions by Over 90%

While airlines are increasingly committed to improving the eco-efficiency of their operations, we at Airport College International, are doing our best to make the industry greener.

Our online courses allow our clients to cut down training-related emissions by over 90%. By improving general awareness of environmental sustainability matters in corporate training it’s possible to make a significant global contribution for a cleaner environment.

eLearning Reduces Carbon Footprint

Digital training is one of the ways for organisations to reduce their carbon footprint. Some of the reasons behind this are: no need for paper printouts, no need to transport people to and from training, no need for training venues (building, heating/aircon, maintenance) to mention a few. And the best part is that all these are direct cost saving too!

eLearning Produces Great Results

We can help you achieve your goals and help the environment, your people and save money – all this with our advanced training solutions.

Training Revolution in the aviation industry

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically impacted the aviation industry. The crisis will have long term impacts on companies, particularly on workforces which will play a critical role when operations start to recover.

Triggered by the crisis and driven by digital transformation

The huge revolution in corporate training is now happening. It’s triggered by the crisis and driven by digital transformation that affects more or less all companies and all industries. Aviation is in the centre of this global change.

The key questions are:

  • How are companies able to retain their valuable employees and how can they can avoid losing critical knowledge and skills
  • How can skills and capabilities be updated to meet new rules and requirements of business?

White paper: Training Revolution

You can find answers to these two questions by reading our white paper called Training Revolution, which was written by my colleague, Mr. Teemu Patala.

The white paper focuses on the impacts of COVID-19 in competence development of the Ground Handling Companies and outlining what needs to be taken into account when providing proper training for an entire workforce in the future.

The white paper

  • outlines digital means and methods of learning
  • proposes a set of solutions that will guide companies through these challenging times

…in order to help management and HR departments streamline their training provision, empowered by digital enablers.

The white paper is available here.
